About this Web Site
The contents of this Web site were developed by the Gareloch and Rosneath Peninsula Web Group, a voluntary non-profit organisation with an interest in making local information available online. The Web Group was founded at the end of 1998 and received a grant from Awards for All in 1999. The site went online later that year, and within a year had won an award in the prestigious Winners@Web competition.
All of the information on the site is provided by volunteers. In the interests of long-term survival, information currency, and relevance, the Web site is designed to allow trusted members of the community to contribute to it. A system of secure password access makes this possible. Many community organisations maintain their own information (such as their entry in the Community Directory and their events listings).
Computing costs associated with hosting the site are met partly through donations and partly through services offered via the website such as business links, local email addresses, web hosting, etc.
Anyone in the local community is welcome to join the work of the Group. You do not need to have computer skills or own a computer. If you have an interest in information or the community or local history or any other aspect of the area, you might like to join in and help to enrich the information on the site. On the other hand, if you have Web or graphics skills, you could be involved in making it a more functional and attractive site, and if you have marketing and PR skills, you could do the whole project no end of good.
