Knockderry Castle
Knockderry Castle in Cove is said to have been built on the dungeons of an ancient Danish or Norwegian fort about 1855 to the design of the famous architect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, The original Scots-baronial villa is attributed to John Honeyman, who extended it in 1869 and 1871.
It was dramatically extended by William Leiper in 1896 for Glasgow carpet manufacturer John S Templeton (of Templeton's Carpet Factory). A famous guest of his at the castle was millionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
For some years a hotel, it is now a private residence again.
